Originally from the UK, I arrived in Perth in 2004 as an “aged migrant” with my wife and three children, after navigating the uncertainty of visa applications, waiting more than two years for approval, and eventually progressing from a temporary business visa to permanent residency and, ultimately, Australian citizenship.
The journey was not always easy. I understand first-hand the challenges many migrants face — the frustration of finding reliable information, the uncertainty of starting again, the emotional pull of leaving family and lifelong friends behind, and the anxiety of moving your family halfway around the world to a place you had only experienced through a short holiday.
The big question was always: “Was it worth it?”
Without hesitation — absolutely.
Perth has given my family and me an incredible lifestyle, opportunities we could only have imagined, and a place we are proud to call home. Today, with children, grandchildren, and a strong connection to the community, we feel incredibly fortunate to have made that decision.
